“No, I can’t do this,” she falters, her will surrendering to his caressing words. “Even if I could,” she adds sadly, “it’s impossible because I can’t see you.”

“Just open your mind and you will,” Caleb coaxes.  “Open your mind and make me stronger.”

“No, this is wrong,” she weakly resists.

“How can it be wrong?  You’re my wife,” he assures her, suddenly appearing as he sees her standing before him in her black underwear.
He gazes at her in awe and yearning, a ghost hungering for physical pleasures he cannot as yet re-experience.  He exists as desire without flesh, craving without solid form.  Elusive, omnipresent, unstoppable, he is as tenacious and unyielding as an erotic obsession.  Looking at the translucent, ethereal specter of her former lover and hearing his voice pervade her thoughts, Livvie must doubt her sanity more than ever, wondering perhaps whether he is a figment of her imagination—an arousing vision she cannot get out of her mind because it represents the fulfillment of her deepest needs.    Making love to him in this state would be an act of masturbatory fantasy, a private ecstasy, illusory yet intensely real.

As Caleb savors the sight of his wife in her sexy undergarments, he rubs his chest and runs his hand through his hair.  Like the first time he saw her (at the riverbank in “Tainted Love”), he looks shy, vulnerable, stricken by her beauty.
“When something’s a little out of sight, it’s even sexier, don’t you think?” he says, his voice husky with lust.

“I can see you now,” she snarls, grabbing a bit of the silk curtains to cover herself.
