“It’s true,” she assures him. “I belong to you and only you.”
“And I believe you have something else that belongs to me,” he snarls. “I want my ring back now.”

Chastened yet trying to act as if nothing unusual happened during the ring’s absence, she hands it back to him.
“Here it is, safe and sound,” she says glibly, evading his unforgiving stare.
“I gave you every opportunity to tell me the truth,” he sighs.
“I was going to, Caleb,” she whines. “I set up this evening with dinner, and I was going to give you your ring
back. But you never came home last night. Where were you? . . . You never have spent the night, the whole
night, out.”
“Why did you take the ring?” he yells. “Wait. Don’t tell me. You kept it because you wanted to make a wish.”
“I wished for something for you,” she confides. “I wished that you would have the most passionate night of
your life, but you weren’t with me. . . . I did it for you, Caleb. Please tell me where you were last night.
Please!”
“What you’d really like to know is, who was I with?” he smiles tauntingly. “Who was she? Who was I with?
Well, let’s see. . . .Who’d be your worst nightmare?”
