| “No, we don’t,” she replies curtly, turning to walk towards the gym. “And I don’t know anything about that ring.”
“And I don’t believe you!” Caleb, vanishing, shouts, his voice echoing like thunder in the air. “I don’t care,” she shouts back, swerving around at the sound of his disembodied voice. “Where did you go?” she gasps. “I’m right here,” he answers, reappearing in front of her. “Sorry—you’re not going anywhere. . . . The ring, Imani!” He stares at her, his hands on his hip, fingers flexed, confident in his power. |

| “I already told you I am not hiding anything. And I am not afraid of you,” she challenges, firmly meeting his gaze.
“Hmmm, maybe you should be,” he responds with a sinisterly charming smile. |

| “Or maybe you think you’re talking to some other girl,” she snarls, seemingly unfazed by his malevolent allure. “I’ve heard all the stories about Stephen Clay the rock star, Caleb Morley the vampire. Let’s just get one thing clear—I may be new in town, but I’m not a thief.”
“I’m impressed,” he murmurs approvingly. “Knowing what you know and yet here you are standing up to me.” |
