“Actually that little drama you caused created quite a buzz,” Stephen points out.  “Maybe I should be thanking you.” Then returning to Alison’s question, he confides that “it actually felt good to connect with the fans, to share the music, and maybe feel appreciated.”

So that’s important to you?” Rafe prompts.

“I’m human, aren’t I?” Stephen teasingly replies. “Actually, this vampire business of yours seems to have gotten around,” he adds.  He tells them about his encounter with the “girl stuck at the side of the road” who claims to have married and destroyed Caleb. When he asks if any of his story sounds familiar, they briefly mention Livvie and confirm that people in town saw Caleb’s murder take place.

“Well, I guess that’s how legends get started,” Stephen notes with a hint of mockery.

“Yeah, we are just a camp full of gypsies hanging on to our Old World superstitions,” Rafe defensively responds.  “But while we’re on the subject of legends, tell us how the Stephen Clay Experience came into being.”

“You mean, where was I born, blah blah blah? Well, Rafe, actually I was raised by a pack of wolves,” Stephen jokes.

“You’re a funny guy.  Keep humoring me,” Rafe smiles tensely, becoming annoyed by Stephen’s rather caustic humor.

“It’s the same old story, man.  Small town, single doting parents,” Stephen answers vaguely.

“What’s the name of this town?” Rafe badgers him.

“Ah, we don’t want to turn it into a Graceland, do we?” Stephen retorts, beginning to lose his patience.

In a rapid-fire assault of questions, Rafe then asks Stephen about where he went to school and how he got his start, barely giving Stephen time to respond before launching another probe.

“What is this, twenty questions?” Elizabeth remarks with disgust and embarrassment.
“No, no, sweetheart.  It’s OK.  Rafe is still trying to figure out if I am this vampire guy,” Stephen reassures her in a condescending tone.

“It’s an extraordinary resemblance,” Rafe exclaims, “including the same sarcastic sense of humor.”

“Better to be sarcastic than to have none at all,” Stephen counters with growing frustration.

“So, why did you pick Port Charles?  It’s not exactly the rock and rock capital of the world,” Rafe accuses.

“Joshua thought it would be good to start small and create a buzz,” Stephen sighs,“which, thanks to you, it did.  Why did you come here?”  He sniffs at his bottle, perhaps trying to calm his tension by smelling the blood-like substance within.

“My job originally,” Rafe answers curtly.

“And your job is?” Stephen inquires, luring him into the trap, knowing that the answer Rafe gives will destroy any remaining sense of credibility he may have had.

“Vampire slayer,” Rafe responds, just as Stephen predicted.

“Oh, I take it back, you do have a sense of humor,” Stephen laughs derisively.  “That or a serious drug problem, I’m not sure which.”
