| "Surrender" #2 (cont.) “It’s fine. It’s fine,” she replies. “Besides, don’t you know you are the only one I want to taste?” She pauses, perhaps reconsidering her lie. “Oh, but since you ask, if I ever did bite anyone, would it matter?” “No, it wouldn’t matter,” he smiles coldly. “I’d find them and kill them.” He kisses her cheek. “And then I’d kill you.” |

| “I am telling you the truth,” Elizabeth falsely insists.
“Of course you are, my love,” he teases, stroking her face. “But I need to see it in your eyes. Look at me.” “Don’t do that. You’re scaring me,” she snaps, her purring coquettishness giving way to anxiety. “Just answer the question,” he says softly. “Did you feed on anyone?” He touches the blood stain on her clothes and then licks his finger, perhaps tasting her deception. |

| “I’m not hiding anything, I swear,” she responds in a tremulous voice. “I was just upset, Stephen. Why can’t you understand that?” She begins to whine, becoming angry, demanding. “You left me alone on our wedding night.”
“It couldn’t be helped,” he mutters. “I couldn’t help myself,” she complains. “It was just some . . . some fantasy that I couldn’t control. Almost," she adds, catching herself before revealing too much. “Just because I wanted to get back at you.” “Is that the truth?” he asks. |

| “Why would I lie to you?” she replies.
“I don’t know,” he smirks. “Have I ever told you what a beautiful neck you have, Sweetheart?” he remarks, caressing her neck. “Your veins are so full and your bones are so brittle. I’d hate to think you’d ever lie to me.” Roughly, he grabs her hair, pulling her face towards his. “You’d never lie to your husband, would you, Sweetheart?” he murmurs icily. Like his treasured paperweight, Elizabeth is beautiful, fragile, his possession to protect or destroy. |
