However, instead of conjuring Michael, Eve only accentuates Caleb's fury, invoking Caleb's most demonic
aspects. "Infants can survive outside their mothers at 7 ½ months, Eve," he intones, his voice rapid,
mechanical, possessed, his eyes blazing red. "Maybe I should end this right now. Reach in and take what I
want."
"Remember, we met by the monastery, " Eve says, trying to ignore Caleb's malevolent threats and connect with
Michael. She speaks in a rather sing-song lullaby voice, as if coaxing a child to come out from hiding.
"The monastery you burned to the ground?" Caleb growls.
"That was Caleb's doing. Caleb destroyed it," Eve replies.
"Think about it, Eve," Caleb torments her. "A child with eyes as red as flame and teeth as sharp as razors."

"The monastery was . . ." Eve goes on, disregarding his taunts.
Just as the impatient, headstrong, blustering Ian is ready to give up on Eve's plans to lure Michael from his retreat,
Michael makes a tentative appearance.
"Michael, Michael--that's it, Michael," Eve coaxes, seeing Michael's shy, gentle soul struggling free from Caleb's
tenacious hold. "Open your hands. Let him go."
Almost immediately, however, Caleb regains control.
"No! No. I don't want to hear any more about Saint Michael," Caleb snarls.
"I believe in you, Michael," Eve says soothingly. "I know you're not a saint, but you're still my friend. And I
know your soul weeps when Caleb destroys."
"Shut up! Shut up!" Caleb yells desperately as he coughs and spits, trying to resist Michael's re-emergence.
"Your heart is pure. Your soul is your own," Eve coos maternally. "Come to me, Michael. Come to me."
As Caleb's eyes change from bestial red to a soft, gentle blue and his features lose their fierce rigidity, Michael
resurfaces and releases Jack.
"Michael, I knew you'd come," Eve says, walking towards him.
