"Tainted Love" Diary 16 (c) by Alison Armstrong
An analysis of the "Tainted Love" episodes of the show "Port Charles," formerly of ABC-TV. This site will focus on the scenes featuring the vampire character
Caleb Morley (portrayed by actor Michael Easton). The character of Caleb Morley and any other characters relating to Port Charles are the property of ABC and

Later Eve and Ian convince Michael to perform their wedding ceremony. As they recite their vows, Eve wearing
a wedding dress she found in the basement (later revealed to be Olivia's wedding dress), the two are married by
Michael.
At Jack's apartment, Chris and Jack fight over the syringe. With his superhuman, murderous strength, Jack easily
overpowers Chris. He attacks Chris with the syringe, strangles him and is on the verge of biting him when Jamal
appears at the apartment with Livvie and Alison after finding them at the cave. Jamal and the young women see
Chris unconscious on the floor while an extremely agitated Jack confesses that he can no longer control his
impulses.
Terrified that he will harm Livvie, Jack runs off into the woods, but Livvie finds him there and refuses to leave his
side. Jack screams at Livvie, ordering her to go while she still can. As she starts to run (for help?), she trips over
a tree limb and falls. It is at this moment that Caleb makes his appearance. "Leave her alone. She's mine," he
calmly but very firmly commands Jack.
"You don't know who you're dealing with . . .or what I can do," Jack growls back, his face contorted in a
grimace of rage and confusion.
"No, Jack," Caleb continues, his voice low and soothing yet deadly. "You're the one that doesn't understand. But
all that's about to change." He pauses and then opens his mouth wide, snarling and baring his fangs at Jack.

Although there are a few explanatory subplots (Chris discovering he was bitten by Jack, Gabby erotically
anticipating Caleb but then having a disappointing, rankling meeting with Joe, Jamal finding out from an occult
bookstore worker that Jack's symptoms suggest vampirism), most of the following episode centers around the
relationship between Caleb and Jack.
After Caleb has bared his fangs to Jack in the preceding episode, Jack continues to try to deny the experience of
his senses, trying to find comfort in rational explanations that fail to account for his own frightening
transformations.
"What do you think you are then?" Jack asks Caleb with false bravado.
"I'll give you three guesses," Caleb replies, calmly twirling a white flower in his fingers, the same type of white
flower that he was holding when he talked to Livvie the first time. The white flower adds to his look of seductive
grace. He reminds me in some ways of a Pre-Raphaelite aesthete, with his love of beauty and artistic enjoyment
of the senses. Yet combined with his refined, sensitive charm is a hard-edged menace, his slinky leather-clad
body as dangerously alluring as a deadly snake.
