| When Jack refuses to leave without Livvie, the two men battle,
grabbing each other by the throat, fighting like rival tomcats over
a prospective mate. As Caleb hurls Jack across the room,
Livvie, worried, asks Jack if he is all right. "Remember, Olivia,"
Caleb reminds her." He's your past. I'm your future. Come here.
Look at me. Look into my eyes. You see how much love I have for
you?"
"Livvie, don't listen to him. Don't," Jack gasps, still struggling for her affection, but Caleb captivates her attention and captures her heart. |

| "Remember how much you wanted to be my wife?" Caleb says
seductively, "how you wanted to live with me through the ages?"
"Yes, I do," Livvie murmurs. "I'm yours, Caleb. I'm here." |

| "I'll get the judge, Olivia," Caleb offers. "We'll continue the
ceremony."
"In front of Jack?" Livvie asks, surprised, not yet aware of Caleb's exhibitionistic tendencies. "Hmm," Jack," Caleb muses. "He can watch. Let him see true love." "Caleb, please. Just let him go," Livvie begs. "It's for his own good, Sweetheart," Caleb explains. "He needs to see with his own eyes what we mean to each other. Only then will he believe it." "Yes, for his own good," Livvie concedes. |

| But before Caleb can get the judge and continue the ceremony,
Livvie's father suddenly bursts through the door.
"I'd swear you weren't on the guest list," Caleb jokes, still confident of victory. His confidence is soon shattered, however, when Lucy, joining the rest of the party crashers, storms in and chaos erupts. In the midst of the turmoil, Jack grabs Caleb and shoves him into the fireplace mantel, then picks up Livvie and carries her over his shoulder like a sack of groceries as he rushes out of the villa. Left alone in the room with an unprotected, defenseless Kevin, Caleb smiles menacingly "Oh, Dad--can I call you Dad?" he taunts. "You just messed with the wrong vampire." As the war between vampires and humans becomes more desperate throughout the remainder of the "Tainted Love" arc, appeals to love, family ties, ethics, and moral superiority are used to rationalize deceit, subterfuge, and violence. The battles are primal, waged over the most basic needs, with humans and vampires alike struggling to survive, attain love, and fulfill their most fervent desires. |
