“All the Pretty Little Horses” song as inspiration

Video I made today for my novel Revenance, (Book 1 of the Feral Rebirth vampire series) : https://youtu.be/2ScOdP0mm-w

“All the Pretty Little Horses” is one of the inspirations for this video trailer I made for from my novel Revenance. In this excerpt from the novel the vampire character roams a hospital looking for dying patients and visits a little girl, bringing her a tender death while he nourishes himself with her blood. The song, which I have loved since childhood, blends gentleness, comfort, and sadness, sleep and death seemingly merged. Earlier versions of this traditional folk ballad are said to have been sung by slaves who were sometimes forced to take care of white children while leaving their own children unintended in the fields, hence the line about the baby with butterflies fluttering around its eyes. (Some earlier versions even mentioned birds pecking at the child’s eyes.) The vision of horses is a blissful, beautiful dream, an escape from an often frightening reality.
